Welcome to Queenstown - Affordable Car Rentals

Queenstown pick-ups and drop offs

Our aim is to provide professional and good quality customer service.  Queenstown hires are generally limited to hires over 4 days and 48 hours’ notice is necessary.

We are based in Frankton, near the airport. For pick-ups at the airport we prefer to meet customers at Queenstown Airport and have them drop off our staff somewhere close by (usually less than 5 minutes away). We will ask you for your flight details and for you to communicate with us if your flight is delayed.

For pick ups where you are not flying in, you can meet us at our car park and our staff will check the vehicle out with you. See below on how to find us.

For all drop offs, we ask customers to drop off in one of our carparks near the Remarkables Park Town Centre. See below on how to find us.

We operate in a carpark near the Remarkables Park Shopping Centre. Instead of turning right off Hawthorne Drive into the shopping centre, continue to the next corner and turn right into Cherry Blossom Ave. You will see a large carpark on that corner and our parks are all clearly labelled towards the back. You  can either leave the car there and find your own way to the airport (10 minutes walk; buses leave every 15 minutes or taxis are less than $10) or our staff will meet you and if you are flying out they can drop you to the airport front door. Again, all we ask is for good communication if you change the agreed drop off time.

Nearly 2 million visitors come to Queenstown each year to experience awe-inspiring scenery, search for adventure, and explore the largely untouched world of the Southern Lakes District. Queenstown lies on the edge of Lake Wakatipu, which is about 80 km long, but whose depth mirrors the height of the mountains surrounding it. It is not known as ‘the adventure capital of the world’ for nothing and truly offers something for everyone.

Why rent from Affordable Car Rentals?

Perhaps the question is, ‘why wouldn’t you?’

With so many activities, sites, scenes to see, and places to explore, it is imperative that you hire an affordable car, wagon or SUV to make the most of your time.

Don’t inhibit your experience by not having the freedom to move from one interest to another.

Affordable Car Rentals NZ wishes to serve you and help enhance that experience by providing you with reliable but cheap transport in this great natural playground!

What Queenstown Affordable Car Rentals offers

We have professional, friendly, service-orientated staff who want to do all they can to provide you with a reliable but affordable rental car. We have a range of cars available from family touring cars, to 4WD Subaru Legacy Wagons and SUVs. Our cars are parked less than 5 minutes from the airport. Our service includes:

  • Paperwork done before hand by email to speed up your turnaround
  • Where possible we endeavour to pick up and drop off customers from the airport. If that is not possible for your hire, we offer to credit back up to $20 towards you taking a taxi from the airport to where your car is parked (less than 5 minutes from the airport) provided you send us a copy of the taxi receipt. For the drop off we do the same, but in reverse. This makes pickups and drop offs fast and it doesn’t matter if there are flight delays.
  • Ski racks and chains available.
  • Affordable cars to give greater access to the surrounding area.

It is important to book at least 48 hours prior and hires in Queenstown are restricted to those over 4 days (unless we have a car available for shorter hires).

What Queenstown offers

  • Breath-taking tramping and hiking routes
  • Skiing doesn’t get better than the many ski fields that surround this area. Try the new upgrade to Coronet Peak Ski field.
  • Jet boating on the Shotover river
  • Bungy Jumping was made famous in this part of New Zealand.
  • Cruising on the lake on the historic Earnslaw steam ship, whilst dining and taking in the world-renowned scenery, will make a memory for you and the family.

  • Enjoy a drive in your rental car to Milford Sound in Fiordland – sometimes referred to as the 8thwonder of the world. The scenery is breath-taking and many cruise options are available on the fiords.
  • Take to the skies above for scenic flights in planes or helicopters. Paragliding and skydiving take on a new dimension over this vista. Ski planes land on the glaciers and float planes land on Lake Wakatipu.
  • For bike enthusiasts, try the many cycle tracks, or what about a quad or dirt bike experience.
  • Hire a rental car to explore the Lord of the Rings locations made famous by the production of that film.

  • Don’t forget the fantastic range of events that are organised each year: festivals, such as the Queenstown Winter Festival, concerts, sporting events, wine and food - all mean that the Queenstown calendar is full.
  • Golfers are spoilt for choice with world class championship courses available.
  • Ride the Gondola which overlooks the lake, city and surrounding mountain scenery.
  • Queenstown is not short on night-life either. There are many cafes, bars, restaurants and takeaway outlets.

Surrounding regions and towns

A rental car allows you to explore further afield:

  • Arrowtown is known for its heritage and historic buildings, museum and stunning scenery especially the wonderful colours in the autumn
  • Glenorchy is the key location in the filming of the Lord of the Rings trilogy. It is a quiet township with a great atmosphere.
  • Kingston is a little town at the southern end of Lake Wakatipu and the home of the famous Kingston Flyer steam train. It is a beautiful, scenic 45 minute lakeside drive from Queenstown.
  • Fiordland is the gateway to the Fiords, scenery and wildlife of the untouched natural world of the deep south. Why not take a rental car to Te Anau, stay the night, and make a three hour trip through to Milford – it won’t disappoint you!
  • Wanaka is a 50 minute drive over the stunning Crown Range. It is a picturesque lakeside town and the host of the airshow, Warbirds over Wanaka.
